TASK -

Our task is to create an advertisement to advertise the school using our new and awesome FlipCams. If our group wins, our video will be displayed on the website.

We are following a concept called G.O.L.D.

Monday 20th September

Step 1 -
We had to interview Mr. Harris, to find out what he would like to see in the movie etc. Steph went to represent our group.

Our questions we asked Mr. Harris and the answers we got from him were:

Q: What are the main parts of the school you would like us to show?
A: The hall, the classrooms for all age groups, performing arts and sports activities.

Q: What are the parts of the school you would prefer us not to show?
A: The garden boxes outside room 13 because they're a bit mucky.

Q: What do you dislike in an advertisement?
A: Silliness, corniness and sloppiness.

Q: Would you like to star in the advertisement?
A: Not necessarily, but he is open to it if we really want him in it.

Q: Would you like narration in the film?
A: Only when you can see the narrator.

Tuesday 21st September

Morning:
Before morning tea we were filming our first scene, and a few other scenes, too. We filmed in Room 18, by the school sign and around the court area.

After morning tea:

After morning tea, we did some more filming around the school and in a few more classrooms. We also filmed in the library when a class was in there, and two people from our group played in the sand pit with some younger kids for one of our other scenes.

During lunch:
We filmed outside, around the field, buildings, court and playground. We mainly filmed people saying what they like about Arrowtown School for a later scene, but we also filmed people playing soccer etc.

After lunch:
After lunch we looked through all our videos, and decided to re-shoot a few scenes. We also did a bit more filming around the school in various places, like the school gates for the end of our advertisement.

Mr. Young taught us about the rule of thirds. We have to pretend to have a grid ruled in thirds, and the main focus - or focuses - should be roughly where two of the lines meet. When we had a look at adds on YouTube, we found that pretty much all of them had followed the thirds rule.

Our storyboard template:

Our scenes:

Wednesday 22nd September

Morning:

In the morning we did some re-shooting, and shot a few more scenes likethe scene in front of the office (a scene we decided to add in) and by the hall. While two us did that, the other three edited our movie and worked on cutting out unneeded parts and puttting in transitions.

During morning tea:

Three of us worked on videoing kids playing on the playground, courts and field during morning tea. We got some good footage of kids on various playground equipment and things.

Before lunch:

Two of us worked on this Wiki and updated everything, so it now has what we have been doing for the past few days. The others continued on editing our movie, which is coming along nicely. We got some footage of the Wednesday Sausages and of a class being read a book in the library. We still need to shoot a few scenes, but those can't be done until Thursday and Friday, so we'll have to wait till then.

After lunch:

We did a lot of editing, and looking at what videos we wanted to use. We deleted all of the bad videos.

Thursday 23rd September

Morning:

In the morning Ella & Alex updated the wiki-page on the concept called G.O.L.D. We refilmed some scenes because we thought they were too wobbly & we also asked the kids what they thought about the school. Then we fimed some scenery but there were no kids on them so we deleted them.

After Morning Tea:

We looked at the photos Mr Young downloaded into Alex's folder & we chose the photos we liked so we could have them in our film. We also did lots of editing.

After Lunch:

We got the photos we chose and put them onto our movie. Mr Harris came to look at our movies and told us that we should put some film in and to film some scenes again.
This afternoon we are doing lots and lots more editing and puting more film and doing some scenes again like Mr Harris said.

Wednesday October 20th
We have been away from our movie for three weeks. We are now looking back at it to see what we like/dislike.
These are the things we decided we like about our movie:
  • the scenes where people are saying things about Arrowtown School because they are saying good things about our school.
  • the scenes with people playing because it shows people are happy at our school.
  • tech scene because it shows what extra things our school does.
  • sausage scene because it shows we offer sausages for lunch.
The things we don't like about our movie are:
  • we need to replace these scenes: the scene showing over the school, rm 18 scene because they are wobbly.

Thursday October 21st

We have decided to get rid of our film and make a new one on Mrs Caldwells mac pro.

Friday 22 October
Today we worked in room five with Mr Young. Mrs Caldwell let us use her MacBook Pro. We got a lot of scenes done at lunch time. The MacBook Pro is so easy to edit with, much better than the other Pc computers.
Our movie is now 35 seconds and 15
milliseconds.

Friday 3rd December
Today we started working at 9:15 and have got lots done so-far!!!!!!
We are still working on Ms Caldwell's MacBook Pro which is great for us.
We (sort-of) went of task when Mrs Horn told us to listen to THE DUCK SONG on youtube. (P.S its a really good show!)
After lunch we are filming Room 10 drumming on with their paint-brushes and their song they made up about their class (room10)
and Arrowtown School.

Now we have most of our footage (ski-ing and our school footage). Today was just a day where we were loading and downloading clips from our new flip-videos.
Monday 6th december
Today is different to yesterday because we started working late (9:45)!
But we have got lots done more than yesterday even (more working less chatting).
But the GOOD news is that Mrs Caldwell was going to use over the time after Interval but because we have nearly finished our movie (which is great) she let us use it until we have finished.
THANKYOU SO MUCH MRS CALDWELL YOU ARE THE BEST!!!

Tuesday 7th December
Today we have got the music in our movie and its SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO nearly finished.
Thanks to Ms Caldwell we wouldn't have got this far...
We got her a box of scorched almonds and made her a nice card for letting us borrow her computer.
Mr Harris (our principal) said our movie was good but we needed to fix things up a bit which is good feedback for us to know and now we have updated those changes so it should be up to his standard.

Thursday 9th December
Today we are going to room 9 to show our movie. We are getting feedback from the class
and then editing again.
These are the commets and suggestions:
lots steadie
